CLASS PROCEDURES & EXPECTATIONS"Life is CHOICES. And all choices have consequences."

On this page you will find information on all of the class procedures, expectations, and grading policies. Each student was given a hard copy of the same information in class to keep in their notebooks. It is also available as a file below so that you can download a hard copy to print for our own personal records.

HOW TO SUCCEED THIS YEAR
Complete all of your work.
Take personal responsibility.
Be honest.
Have a positive attitude.
Try your best!

MATERIALS NEEDED
  • Pen/Pencil… EVERY DAY!
  • Binder with paper
  • Vocabulary/Literature books as specified
  • GMail Account (we will create this together in class)
  • Wikispace Account (we will create this together in class)

GENERAL EXPLANATION OF CLASS PROCEDURES:

START OF CLASS: To start class every day, we will complete a warm-up activity. For the first half of the year, we focus on DGP (Daily Grammar Practice). For the second half of the year, we will focus on grammar application and journal writing. As you arrive to class, immediately get your binder and begin the warm-up.

UNITS: In an effort to simulate the real world, our class will be run by completing a series of units with set deadlines. For every unit, students will be given a packet of work that includes everything for the unit from start to finish (terms, classwork, notes, etc.). Much of the work will be completed in class. HOWEVER, if any student should be absent, he/she is required to complete the work for that day on his/her own time.

DEADLINES: A deadline will be given for each. ALL work in the packet must be completed and submitted by the set deadline. Deadlines are called deadlines for a reason! Students will have two days to complete late work for a 15% point reduction. Any packets not submitted by that time will be given a zero. Remember, school policy explains that all illegal absences (cuts) means NO CREDIT (0%) for work due or completed on the day of your cut.

  • TESTS: There will be at least one test for every major unit. It will be announced and explained well in advance. It may consist of multiple choice, short answer questions, or essays.
  • QUIZZES: There will be announced quizzes throughout the semester on all types of topics. We also complete voacb units bi-weekly. For the first week, we will review a new set of words and complete the homework assignment on Friday. The quiz will then be given the following Friday. When computing your grade at the end of the marking period, I will drop your lowest vocabulary quiz grade. Any ZEROS received as a result of an illegal absence or cheating will not be dropped.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: For professional development, you will earn or lose points every day of class based on your performance, participation, attitude, preparation, work ethic, behavior, cooperation/work with others, and respect. It is a 30+ point grade at the end of every marking period.
  • CAREER RESEARCH/JOB-SHADOW PROJECT: Every student will complete either a job-shadow project (LCTI students) or a career research project (Parkland only students) this year. You will research information about a career of interest and complete business related assignments including ones on interviewing skills, resumes, and cover letters. *Good news! Research paper presentations may be used as a graduation requirement!
  • MISSED WORK: YOU are responsible for any missed work and/or notes. You will have 1-2 days to make up missed assignments and 1 week for missed tests at the teacher’s discretion. Check with a classmate BEFORE coming to see me before or after class. Absentee or late assignments should be placed in your period’s “in-box.”
  • CHEATING AND PLAGIARISM: Cheating and/or plagiarism will not be tolerated. It will result in a ZERO for that specific test, quiz, or activity at the very least.

*If you have any questions or concerns about a grade you received, ASK ME! I will never lower your grade, but if I agree with your argument, I will raise it!
